Random on Taiwan's politics

1, Purchase of American Weapons
Whether to buy the $18 billion package from the US. People ask me whether Taiwan should buy them or not. Honestly speaking, I do not know what the reasonable price should be and how necessary they are since I am not an expert on those weapons. It is very likely that the US is designing some sort of Japan-Taiwan-US shield in the region, and this arms purchase will be a part of it. What is obvious is that it is rather about diplomacy and has political significance in terms of the Taiwan-US relations. Basically. I do not think Taiwan has any other choice in the end. It is very insensible of Lawless (a US official) to almost threaten Taiwan into making a quick decision.

2, Bribing Costa Rican President?!
The former President of Costa Rica is alleged to receive political contributions from Taiwan's MoFA. A China Post article on this.

3. Opinion Poll!!!
This is important.
"A KMT legislative nominee-commissioned poll suggests the party could win the 2008 presidency if it becomes more `Taiwan-centered'." (Taipei Times) Poll shows more support for DPP (China Post)
