Michi's new Taiwanese friend, Nimitz, introduced me to a very famous general today. General 孔令晟 came to Taiwan with the KMT, served many many important posts and taught as the head of Taiwan's military college until recently. See this page or this or this for some information about him in Chinese. He probably saw almost everything of Taiwan/KMT's military history. He is already 88 years old but speaks fluent English!! He spoke mostly in Chinese today, but sometimes switched to English. He was very very friendly, and talked a lot about Taiwan's politics, foreign policy, military affairs, relations with China and the US. I was soooo impressed with how smart and how objective his observation is. I just felt really honored and lucky that I had a chance to visit him personally. He also gave me a Chinese book "The Grand Strategy" that he published a while ago. Its English version is almost ready for publication. He treated me to Japanese Shabu-shabu for lunch :)
